About Ms. Solís
I have been teaching elementary, middle, and high school science for 15 years. I began teaching environmental science as a Peace Corps volunteer in a small mountain village in Bolivia, South America. I have also taught in public and private schools all over the Bay Area. I graduated from Susquehanna University with a Bachelors of Science degree in Environmental Science and Geology and was awarded the Peace Corps Fellowship to pursue a Masters degree at San Francisco State University in Social Justice and Multicultural Education.
Ever since I was a little girl, I felt passionate about protecting "Mother Earth." This love for nature came from warm and sunny days spent climbing trees, hiking through forests, swimming in lakes and oceans, collecting bugs and critters to bring home as pets, and marveling at wondrous sunsets, snowstorms, lightning, and shooting stars.
Our planet is our home and provides us with everything we need to live and thrive. I have never understood how humans could treat this home so irresponsibly. As humans we are trashing and destroying the health of our planet at a frightening rate. Our own survival depends upon the survival of the planet, yet few seem to pay attention to serious environmental threats, and even fewer are willing to do anything about it.

Joaquin... my mini me
An environmental scientist in training...
I have dedicated my life to ensuring that the gifts and beauty of nature, and the clean air and water I enjoyed as a child continue to exist for both my son and for the children of the future. What I do as an environmental science teacher is so much more than just a job... it is my life's purpose, my passion, and way of life.
In my free time, I enjoy training in the Brazilian martial art of Capoeira, snowboarding down double black diamonds with reggae pumping in my ipod, gardening, hiking with my dog Pachamama, and sharing meals and hugs with my son Joaquin.
